What’s Trending for 2021 Issue

The year 2020 was an unprecedented and tumultuous year, and much of what fundraisers set out to accomplish was significantly impacted by COVID-19 and social justice protests. As we begin to recalibrate, this issue will highlight what fundraisers need to focus on in the year ahead. Some topics will include:

Relationship Building and Donor Cultivation Issue

What does it take to build positive, fruitful relationships with donors, and how does donor cultivation and stewardship impact fundraising. Topics will be broken down into sections specific to different categories of fundraisers:

  • Donor cultivation/relationship building for seasoned professionals
  • Relationship building in a virtual world
  • Building relationships not for money, but just to show you care

This issue will also continue to tease AFP ICON 2021 in Minneapolis, June 28 - 30 (and virtual component), interviews with main stage speakers, etc.

Equity Issue

Focusing on many of the principles of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access, we’ll address issues like how have organizations restructured diversity and inclusion programs in the last year, pay inequality for minorities and women, creating more access points to major donors for minority-focused nonprofits, board diversity, and what equity means beyond race and gender. Other topics include crowd funding and micro-lending.

Leadership and Ethics Issue

This issue will focus on leadership and Ethics! Topics will include leadership in turbulent times, women in leadership, as well as leadership development and succession planning. To celebrate Ethics Awareness Month, ethics articles will explore leadership and ethics, as well as the importance of upholding ethical standards not only because it is the right thing to do, but also because of the impact it has on your organization’s brand. Other topics will include technology and career development.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS AND FORMATS

  • high-resolution PDF/X-1a file is required for all ads.
  • Colors must be CMYK. No ICC profiles, RGB or Pantone colors.
  • Resolution of all photography and scanned illustrations must be at least 300 dpi. Line art should be 600 dpi.
  • Vital copy and images must be at least 1/8" away from trim. Spread ads must have at least 3/8" total gutter.
  • Materials should be submitted without crop marks, but full-page ads should include the required 1/8" bleed.
  • All fonts used must be embedded in the PDF file.
  • Using the bold, italic or other style keys is not encouraged. Please use the bold or italic version of the font. (For example, instead of making Adobe® Garamond bold with the style key, use the actual font for Adobe® Garamond Bold.)
  • Flatten all layers and set transparency to highest setting.
  • Ads must be suitable to print as-is. AFP is not responsible for any errors in content.
  • PLEASE NOTE: Materials that do not meet the stated advertising specifications will be rejected.
  • Necessary alterations are the responsibility of and at the expense of the advertiser. All materials must be submitted in accordance with the published deadlines and meet the criteria stated in the advertising policy.
